Official visit of the Director General for Asia and Oceania of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru
The Director General of Asia and Oceania of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru, Ambassador Elard Escala, visited to India on December 4th and 5th, where he held meetings with the Secretary (East) of the MEA, Mrs. Vijay Thakur Singh and with JS (LAC), Mr. G.V. Srinivas, to prepare the agenda of the second Peru-India Joint Commission and to explore ways to strengthen the relations between both countries. The Parties welcomed the strengthening of political ties between Peru and India, highlighted by the visit of the Indian Vice President Shri Venkaiah Naidu to Peru in May 2018 and of the Minister of Energy and Mines, Francisco Ísmodes, to India in October of the same year. Likewise, they highlighted the increase in bilateral trade that positions India as the fifth largest trading partner of Peru in 2018. Both Parties reviewed the agreements reached in the framework of the First Meeting of the Joint Commission, in particular the scientific and technical cooperation initiatives, and examined the possible thematic areas that would be addressed at the next meeting to be held in mid-2019.
